WHAT IS
HYPNOSIS?
Hypnosis
is a technique with which we get a different
psycho-physiological state from the normal waking state. The
electro-encephalogram of a hypnotized person is different
from a person who is awake or asleep in a natural sleep.
This state is very suggestibility.
That is,
if one hypnotizes another person and he falls into a deep
trance, where the hypnotist suggested that their body will
start to feel hot, they will find alleviation by removing
their clothes. Why is this happening? Because there is a
separation between the conscious and the unconscious mind in
our mental activity. So in hypnosis, especially where the
individual operates unconsciously, which significantly
reduces the ability of reasoning and self-consciousness,
most of the hypnotist's suggestions will be admitted as
fact.
Apart from
the ridiculous stage performances, hypnosis is actually a
practical and beneficial application for clinical therapy,
to cure diseases or improve physical or mental problems. For
example, some well known applications of hypnosis are : the
extraction of teeth without pain, mental and psychological
disorders: phobias, fears, trauma, depression, anxiety,
nervousness, stress, enuresis, shyness, and so on. It has
been very useful in dermatology to cure almost instantly
warts, eczema, and all kinds of rashes. In short, hypnosis
has been used for hundreds of so-called psychogenic or
psychosomatic diseases, namely those with an emotional or
psychological conflict. Hypnotherapy has a remarkable
success for addictive behavior such as gambling, alcohol,
drugs, etc.
IS
HYPNOSIS DANGEROUS?
Hypnosis
is not dangerous, if it is done by a qualified person, and
one certainly enough to have the ethics not to subject his
client to any practice that could be considered dangerous or
unethical. If the hypnotist was to leave, while the subject
was in a deep trance, this is not a problem because in this
case, the hypnotic state would transform into a natural
sleep. The only absolute contraindications of hypnotherapy
are for people suffering from epilepsy or
schizophrenia.
HYPNOSIS
AND TRANCE
The
hypnotist (therapist) is not a person with a super innate
power, acquired to subdue their will on others. The
hypnotherapist simply applies the techniques that lead to an
induced hypnotic state. This happens gradually shifting from
a lighter trance state in which the subject relaxes the
muscles to enter a lethargic state. Later, when the person
is more relaxed and his body reaches a cataleptic state of
trance, and finally, the deep trance state which is
considered somnambulism, in which the individual is able to
open his eyes without leaving the hypnotic sleep, accepting
the suggestions.
HYPNOSIS
AND PARAPSYCHOLOGY
Hypnosis
itself is not "paranormal." However during a hypnotic state
it's relatively easy to produce phenomena that are the
subject of scientific study of parapsychology, which fall
within the study of Extra Sensory Perception (ESP). So using
techniques of hypnosis the subject has a a telepathic
advantage i.e.. can relatively easily grasp the thoughts of
a particular person, whether they are near or thousands of
km away, including the state of their health.
HYPNOSIS
and PAIN CONTROL?
Absolutely,
during the BBC documentary "the Power of Suggestion"
a Valencian doctor Angel Escudero always operates without
using general anesthetic, but by sending his patients into a
trance, and where the subjects are completely awake to
observe and discuss their own operation without any
fear.
TRANCE
STATE OR CATATÓNICO (cataleptic)
This state
is characterized total muscle stiffness. Immediately after
this, the subject will be induced to enter a stage of deep
hypnosis very quickly.
