In Hip-Hop
instrumentals, typically the verse section is 16 bars. This
means that a Hip-Hop verse needs to be 16 lines, you'll have
four sets of 4 lines to compose a verse. As you may know the
quatrain follows an AABB rhyme scheme, and very line will
fit to 4 beats .
Most rap
beats range between 80 and 110 Beats Per Minute, and the
speed of the music determines the speed of your rap.
Another
great idea to throw into your raps now and again are
alliterations, such as "red rum runs the race". Also
Metaphors will add some interest to your lyrics, because
they spice up your phrases such as "I'm a dancing elephant"
which is a metaphor because we know it's untrue.
Many great
rap songs use slang and this is a big advantage because if
you have a fantastic few lines but suddenly get stuck you
can invent a word that will be considered slang or a trade
name. Another great trick for rap is to slip in some
consonance which is the repetition of two or three same
sounding consonants in sequence, such as bitter chatter
butter butter.
You may
also know that putting some repeating vowels into your rhyme
creates a cool result such as: "quick picking is still
hitting" , and notice the vowel "i" is used very
often.
As well as
using one syllable rhymes you can make it much more
professional by using multiple syllable rhymes using two or
even three syllable words that all rhyme together. such as
mutilate and fumigate, and we can even use double rhyming
words such as "queen of hearts, teen of tarts"
When
writing for rap, try and pick something original or if
something has been used quite a lot, then at least make sure
that it stands out from the rest.
With the
following program your brain will be giving more energy to
your creativity center, so that after listening to the
audios you will have a strong urge to take a pen and some
paper and start writing rap, and each time you practice
writing for rap or thinking about rhymes then you will
synergistically get better and better just like a spiral, so
that the more your learn then the triple amount of
opportunities open up for you, and the more that you
practice then the exact part of your brain that involves
rhyming, rapping and speech will be more powerful.
